"I'll Make Love to You" Turns 25 Years Old this Week

When a hit song turns 25 years old, it is technically old enough to become a "classic hit". When that song is just barely old enough to gain this classification, we call them "baby classics".

This week's baby classic is:

Boyz II Men, "I'll Make Love to You" (1994)

This smash hit was written by legendary artist and songwriter, Babyface. "I'll Make Love to You" helped Boyz II Men earn the #1 spot on Billboard Chart's Hot 100 for a record tying 14 weeks. "I'll Make Love to You" was basically at the top from August 27th all the way until the beginning of December. During their last few weeks at #1, Boyz II Men's next hit "On Bended Knee" reached #3 at the same time.

At the time, the song tied a record for the most weeks (with 14 weeks) at number one that had been set by Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You". Boyz II Men would later break their own record in 1996 with "One Sweet Day", 16 weeks at #1. "One Sweet Day" held the record for over twenty years until "Despacito" tied it at 16 weeks in 2018 and finally, "Old Town Road" surpassed them all with 19 weeks on top in 2019.

Other awesomeness from the summer of 1994:

TV Show: "My So Called Life" - Claire Danes and Jared Leto

Movies: "Forrest Gump", "The Mask", and"The Shawshank Redemption"
